# Why borrow against AMPL/SPOT?

***

While flatcoins offer significant benefits, they can complicate transactions in a predominantly dollar-based economy. AmpUSD gives users the ability to preserve purchasing power via SPOT, while transacting in a dollar-denominated currency.

SPOT provides distinct advantages when used with AmpUSD. The comparison below shows ETH’s price versus SPOT’s fair market value (FMV) over a six-month period (April - Sept 2024). Users borrowing against ETH would need to frequently manage their position to avoid liquidation. By contrast, users borrowing against SPOT can maintain a more stable position without constant oversight, reinforcing the “set it and forget it” principle.

AMPL is proven to be one of the most in-demand assets to borrow against via AAVE from the previous market cycle. With AmpUSD, AMPL holders now once again have a borrowing market for their AMPL, but this time, they can set their own interest rates and much more.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.asymmetry.finance/ampusd-stablecoin/why-borrow-against-ampl-spot.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
